Fashion Illustrations
It's been a long long time since I was able to stroll about aimlessly. This update is sparked off by my incidental visit to PageOne in Vivocity where they were exhibiting some really cool japanese fashion illustrations and me stumbling across Digmeout.net which features
a host of fantastic artists along the varying spectrum of art perception
waiting to set the world ablaze.

I simply adore his use of colors that pop! Especially the pictures that have a touch of the oriental in them mixed with the clean fashion lines. [above pic] His impression of Chang E [right pic] which is so uniquely his style of being whimsical yet totally modern is another one of my favourites. It's really reminiscent of the Tokidoki inspired Le Sportsac products that seem to be flooding Singapore consumers lately.

Modaka is one artist who made me fall in love with wide-eyed dolls all over again. Her hip-hop, pop culture art has completely captivated me. [left pic] It reminds me of the Blythe dolls that used to be all the rage (and will probably come back in fashion again) without the goth-like straight bangs glory. My absolute most loved art of hers has to be the series in the [ANGEL] exhibition she showed last October. [far left]. The starkness of the colours - only a couple of pastels hues of varying shades makes her art stand out all the more. Can't wait to get my hands on her illustration book should she ever decide to finally publish one given her extensive works.

Mari Kubota [久保田真理]

Her works remind me of something I would see should Margaret Atwood ever decide to publish an illustrated version of her works. Perhaps it is the elongated swan necks of all her females and the colour pencil sketching effects that make her pictures strangely surreal. [left] The abstractness of Mari's art is compelling, faintly goth-ish with hints of darkness lurking beyond the surface.
